posted Jan 7, 2019, 7:37 PM by Committee Chair Pack23   [ updated Jan 29, 2019, 9:13 PM ]

Another Night of Dozin with the Dinos!

Its been a few years since we've been sleeping in the Field Museum.  But rest assured that Sue is still overlooking the place with her terrifying toothy smile!

Everyone is welcome to attend this outing, Scouts, siblings, friends, and friends of friends.  Each family group requires a parent.  The overall ratio of our whole Pack needs to be 1:3 (1 parent to 3 kids).  The cost is $66 per person, but each registered Pack 23 Scout is half price at $33!!

Please sign up on the form here as soon as possible so that we can make sure they have room for everyone.

Pack 23 Fall Campout - Indiana Dunes

posted Oct 5, 2018, 5:16 PM by Committee Chair Pack23   [ updated Jan 29, 2019, 9:13 PM ]

Hi Scouts!

Our Pack 23 Fall Campout is coming up Saturday October 13 to Sunday October 14 at the Indiana Dunes State Park in Chesterton, IN.  We will be at Nissaki Youth Camp Site #3.  You can arrive any time on Saturday.  We will try to have a group hike around 2 or 3pm to enjoy this great park.

We will will be cooking dinner in the evening which is usually Hot Dogs and Hamburgers.  After dinner we will have skits and then S'mores around the campfire.  On Sunday morning, we will have pancakes and sausages for breakfast, and everyone can pack up and leave as they need to, or enjoy the park for a while before heading back home.

This is a free event for all Pack 23 Scouts and families, so come on out!  There is a $10 entrance fee per car, so maybe join in with another Scout family to car pool.  In order for us to know how much food to buy, please sign up on the web form here.

Please bring a tent to sleep in and sleeping bags and pads for everyone in your family.  If you need any gear feel free to contact one of the leaders -- they have plenty to lend out.

Also, please bring a mess kit (plate and utensils, along with a cup). We will have hot coffee in the morning so bring a coffee cup if you drink coffee.

Pack 23 is just getting started for the year, and we'd like to get the word out to all the students, especially in 1st through 5th grades!  Pass the word around!

Our big kick off meeting will be Monday, September 17 at 6:30pm at Longfellow School.
We will be making paper rockets and then launching them high in the sky with compressed air!  Everyone can join in and make rockets.

Come on out to this free event and find out all about Cub Scouts and Pack 23.

Pack 23 Spring Family Campout, Saturday May 19 to 20

posted May 1, 2018, 9:44 PM by Committee Chair Pack23   [ updated Jan 29, 2019, 9:15 PM ]

Hi Everyone!

The weather is finally getting nice out!  It's Camping Season again!

We will have our Spring Family Campout on Saturday, May 19 to Sunday May 20 out at Camp Tomo-Chi-Chi Knolls in Gilberts IL.  We can get there as early as 11am on Saturday, but you can come later if you have Sports commitments --even if its later.  Our camp sites are #7 and #8

We generally have things like hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner and roast marshmallows and s'mores on the fire for dessert.  Breakfast is typically pancakes and sausage.  If these are not in your diet, please plan to bring some food.

We have seen some ticks at this camp in years past, but not the ones that carry Lime disease.  It's a good idea to bring some Deep Woods OFF.

Please bring a tent and a mess kit (plate/bowl silverware, and cup) to eat from.

This is FREE for our Pack 23 members and their families, but PLEASE sign up on this form before 5/16 so that we know how much food to buy.

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone out camping!

Hi Scouts!

We have an excellent opportunity to go skiing at Cascade Mountain in Wisconsin on Sunday, February 11!

The BSA and the Cascade Mountain pair up to hold an event for Scouts and their families to ski for the whole day for $20 which includes the equipment rental!  Thanks to Anne France for coordinating this for us!

Here's the basic info:
  • Parents and Siblings can participate for the same price.
  • Each participant must have a waiver form filled out -- Click here for the waiver form
  • Anyone 10 and up can sign up for ski or snowboard group lessons for $5
  • Group lessons start at 10am and 12pm.  You need to be signed up and ready a half hour before.
  • Under 10 you can sign up for lessons from the Cascade Kids Program at the mountain for individual instruction.  Contact the Ski school for more information at 608-742-5588.  Let them know you are with the Pack 23 group on 2/11.
  • The Lifts start at 9am on Sunday 2/11.
  • There are a few hotels near the mountain if you want to stay in the area, otherwise you can drive up in the morning.
  • We will have a convenient place to meet to get your lift tickets the morning of the event for the first few hours.  Anne will be available by phone until about noon with the lift tickets.  Lets try to get all the lift tickets distributed by 10:30am so we don't inconvenience Anne too terribly.
  • We need to let them know the number of participants ahead of time, and we need to pay for and receive the lift tickets on the morning of 2/11.  Thanks to Anne France for coordinating this for us!
  • Because we need to do it all at once, you need to sign up, fill out the waiver for each participant, and pay ahead of time.
  • To sign up, fill out the form below, fill out the waivers for each participant, and put them in an envelope and drop them off at the France's House at 609 S Elmwood before the end of the day, Monday 2/5.
  • The last day to sign up will be February 5th.

More information will follow as we get closer to the event.
